Our Acupuncture Fertility Treatments have an overall 70% pregnancy success rate.
Acupuncture and oriental medicines have been used for thousands of years in order to increase the fertility and promote reproductive health in women. Records show that these methods were first used for fertility by Zhang Zhong Jing around the first century. He was known in the Han Dynasty for his medical work on treating disease in women. Acupuncture and oriental medicine practitioners are taught that the health of a person depends entirely on the balance of their life energy, or Qi.
Qi must be circulating in balance with blood in order for the body to function at its best. Normal functions can be boosted through the use of oriental medicine and acupuncture as well such as fertility which can be especially useful for couples who have been trying to conceive with no results. Fertility enhancement treatments depend on the person, but on average takes about twelve weeks. These treatments include methods such as herbal medicine, herbal therapy, diet changes, stress reduction courses, and acupuncture.

What Your Test Results Mean
If a woman has attempted to conceive for several months without a pregnancy, It is often recommended that she see her medical doctor for an evaluation. A physical examination and other tests may possibly be done. This will depend on her age, exam results, and any past medical history.
- A hormone panel on the third day of her menstrual cycle is often ordered. Included in this panel are tests for FSH, LH, estradiol, and AMH.
- FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) is an indication of the Ovarian reserve. Optimally, for fertility, this number should be around 10 mlU/ml. Acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine have been proven effective at lowering the FSH if it is elevated.
- LH (lutenizing hormone). Triggers ovulation and stimulates the secretion of estrogen. The range on day 3 should be between 3-20 mlU/ ml.
- E2 (Estradiol) Measures overall ovarian health. Healthy fertility values measure at 50-100pg/ml
- AMH (Anti-mullerian hormone) Provides an approximation of the remaining egg supply. The normal range for a woman under 35 is 1.5 to 4.0ng/ml.
- These test results are indicators of a healthy fertility quotient. Much can be done in traditional Chinese medicine to increase fertility, even if her test results are less than perfect.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Adjunct Treatment
Women who were already in the process of in vitro fertilization or IVF, had an increased chance by sixty-five percent of getting pregnant when acupuncture was combined with this assisted reproductive therapy (ART) procedure.
Several trials were conducted to get these results. These trials involved more than thirteen hundred participants being split into three groups. One group received acupuncture before the embryo transfer, the second received it after the transfer, and the third did IVF without acupuncture. The results of the first two groups showed a sixty-five percent success rate. A recent study shows that IVF alone has a success rate if 13-43% depending on the patient’s age.
Scientists believe that acupuncture is able to stimulate certain neurotransmitters that are responsible for the production of a hormone that controls the menstrual cycles of women and their ovulation. It is also thought to improve blood flow in the uterus and causes the body to relax. The treatment also reduces stress – which is a known deterrent to the success of IVF.
In addition to being an effective treatment for infertility, Acupuncture can be effective for treating PCOS, PMS, painful menstrual cycles, and irregular periods, so if you are suffering from any of these then please call us as soon as possible to set up an appointment.

Pregnancy and PostPartum Care
Choosing Acupuncture for Support Throughout Your Pregnancy
A planned pregnancy is the beginning of a life-changing experience for a woman and her family. From the time she discovers she has conceived, she has many hopes and dreams. She anticipates exciting firsts. The nurturing a growing life inside her is a miraculous experience. Excitement, anticipation and fear are all in the mix when thinking about how much her life is about to change. One of the first, and most important, things she will have to consider is prenatal care so both mom and baby can be as healthy and happy as possible.
Acupuncture is a completely safe, effective and totally natural option for pregnancy support. Thousands of years of practice and development of the art of acupuncture, and now authentic, integrated training and a growing interest in the West attests to the wonderful results that so many pregnant women have experienced with acupuncture.
Acupuncture works by subtly opening and clearing the energetic channels of the body to correct imbalances, maximize flow and release tension. Imbalance, blockage and tension are really the underlying causes of discomforts during pregnancy.
Morning sickness: Morning sickness feels like your stomach is constantly being turned upside down and inside out. This usually occurs during the first trimester, but it can last throughout the whole pregnancy, and is not just in the morning. What is happening is the body is completely re-organizing itself to prepare to carry and nourish another life within. Acupuncture is able to address any physical resistance or structural imbalances that result in nausea and vertigo.
Fatigue: Dealing with fatigue during pregnancy can exacerbate all the other problems. It is especially important to conserve energy and feel strong and relaxed as the due date approaches. Acupuncture is non-habit forming, and does not involve any drugs that can harm the fetus – while allowing the body to relax into a good nights sleep. Sometimes a tired mother will even fall asleep during the treatment and wake up completely refreshed.
Acupuncture is also used to treat a myriad of other problems during pregnancy including: constipation, heartburn, swelling, sciatica and back pain.
What about pre-labor treatments?
Believe it or not, acupuncture is effective in turning a breech presentation (when the baby is feet-first) and can aid in natural induction in cases where the water has broken and labor has not initiated within 24 hours, for example.
What about post partum support?
Acupuncture addresses everything from baby blues and post-partum depression, to lactation support and mastitis. Remember, acupuncture works with the body’s energetic channels, balancing and opening to allow better flow and releasing tension. By choosing acupuncture, the mother-to-be is choosing one therapy that is natural, safe and effective support throughout the entire pregnancy.

Natural Childbirth
Are You Expecting? My Acupressure for Childbirth DVD Is a Must See!
Pregnancy is a truly miraculous time in a woman’s life. Nurturing a growing life brings with it so many dreams, anticipations and exciting firsts. It can also bring a lot of questions when it comes to how an expectant mother wants to experience childbirth and the entire delivery process.
Why Choose Natural Childbirth
I believe that the birth of every child can be a natural one with the right acupressure and breathing techniques. While conventional birthing options gain popularity each year, there are many reasons to choose a natural childbirth experience over a delivery that utilizes more aggressive medical intervention and the use of epidurals and other drugs. A major benefit for choosing a natural birth plan over a conventional birth plan can be found in studies whose results support lower cesarean section rates among women who do not opt for an epidural during labor. Many of these studies have shown direct links to the prevalence of cesarean section births in case where epidurals are used during labor (especially in the case of induced labors) both in the U.S. and world-wide.
Birth by cesarean section can often be frightening for a laboring mother, as well as her partner and increases a mother’s risk for infection from surgery. C-sections also significantly increase recovery time from childbirth. These factors, among many others, often help a mother decide that a natural childbirth is beneficial to both mother, and child. Of course, natural childbirth plans rely upon finding the right support and techniques to help accomplish the childbirthing experience each expectant mother desires.
I am proud to present all expecting mothers with our Acupressure for Childbirth DVD. “Acupressure and Breathing for Childbirth” celebrates the miracle of childbirth and discusses the effective use of acupressure for use throughout pregnancy and during labor, focusing on acupressure points and organized breathing techniques to create a superior childbirth experience.
